Aspectos da alimentação de Tanystylum isabellae marcus e Anoplodactylus stictus marcus (Pantopoda) Zoologia

This work deals with feeding tests performed in laboratory with Pantopoda species, Tanystylum isabellae Marcus, 1940 and Anoplodactylus stictus Marcus, 1940. Animals (alive and dead) and vegetable foods were offered to males without eggs, males with eggs, females and juveniles Pantopoda. Of the 13 types of food offered to the animals only Sertularia Linnaeus, 1758 (Hydrozoa). Amathia distans Busk, 1886 (Bryozoa), Hyale media (Dana, 1853) (Crustacea, Gammaridea), Caprella danilevskii Czerniavski, 1868 (Crustacea-Caprellidae), Artemia salina Leach, 1812 (Crustacea, Anostraca) e Perna perna (Linné, 1758) (Bivalvia, Mytilidae) were actually eaten. Aspectos da distribuição de Pantopoda em Sargassum de Itanhaém e Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brasil Zoologia

Qualitative and quantitative aspects of the distribution of Pantopoda species living on Sargassum of Ubatuba and Itanhaém (northern and southern coast at São Paulo State, respectively) were studied. The results showed the occunence of nine Pantopoda species. The highest relative frequency was assigned to Tanystylum isahellae Marcus, 1940. In general the density of Pantopoda species was related to that of Hydrozoa covering Sargassum.

Biodiversity and phylogeny of Ammotheidae (Arthropoda: Pycnogonida) ArchiMer

The family Ammotheidae is the most diversified group of the class Pycnogonida, with 297 species described in 20 genera. Its monophyly and intergeneric relationships have been highly debated in previous studies. Here, we investigated the phylogeny of Ammotheidae using specimens from poorly studied areas. We sequenced the mitochondrial gene encoding the first subunit of cytochrome c oxidase (CO1) from 104 specimens. The complete nuclear 18S rRNA gene was sequenced from a selection of 80 taxa to provide further phylogenetic signal. The base composition in CO1 shows a higher heterogeneity in Ammotheidae than in other families, which may explain their apparent polyphyly in the CO1 tree. First record of endoparasitism of Pycnogonida in Hydrozoan polyps (Cnidaria) from the Brazilian coast Biota Neotropica

Despite the relatively high number of recent studies on Cnidaria off the Brazilian coast, we have observed only two records of parasitism on macromedusae and none on polyps. Endoparasitic associations between Pycnogonida larvae and hydroids have been well known since the early 20th century. Protonymph larvae develop inside the gastrovascular cavity of polyps, typically gastrozooids, which are then called gallzooids. This short communication is an unprecedented record of parasitism on the polyps of Brazilian cnidarian fauna.
